The Faculty was set up in 1966 and is one of the oldest faculties at CUT. The Faculty has evolved from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Its name has remained unchanged since it was established. The graduates of the Faculty are perceived as outstanding students even though the faculty itself has a reputation for being not the easiest one. The Faculty has had the right to confer the title of Ph.D. EE (in Polish: doktor) - since 1992 and D.Sc. EE (in Polish: doktor habilitowany) - since 2012. Lectures, tutorials, seminars and supervised research are carried out in several classrooms, lecture halls and laboratories. Both in the laboratories and in the main hall the students are given free access to the Internet. Scientific research of the academics, MSc and PhD projects and students' research are carried out in well-equipped laboratories. The results of the research are presented at various domestic and international conferences as well as published in books, periodicals and conference materials.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers full-time and part-time BSc. studies in the field of Electrical Engineering (since 1966), Electronics and Telecommunications (since 2004), Computer Science (since 2001) and Automation and Robotics (since 2013). Since 1996 the Faculty offers Master's programmes in the field of Electrical Engineering and since 2012 in Computer Science.

The courses offered at the Faculty are constantly updated and modified to meet the needs of the students, which is the result of the demand on the constantly changing job market. Due to this flexibility, the graduates succeed in getting the jobs in which they are qualified, both in Poland and abroad.

The most active students are involved in the research of students' scientific teams. The Faculty cooperates with universities in Slovakia, Germany, Italy and Britain within the framework of exchange programmes, thus permitting its students to gain the indispensable experience abroad. It has also been accredited by FEANI, which allows the graduates to apply for the title of European Engineer (EUR ING), also recognized in the countries outside Europe, without having to undergo an official procedure of diploma evaluation.

Students of Electrical Engineering have professional skills and knowledge in the field of Industrial Electrical Engineering (machines and electrical devices), Electrical Power Engineering, Electro-technology, Control Theory, Robotics, and others. Graduates are employed in a wide range of institutions. Typical roles include plant and maintenance engineers as well as designers of new technologies in power and electrical power industries. Computer Science students are offered a broad-ranging course, that covers all elements of modern computing. Graduates are likely to find a job in a number of sectors, such as state and local administration, modern industrial enterprises, consulting firms as well as institutions based on data transformation and transmission like banks, insurance companies, tax offices, etc. Students of Electronics and Telecommunications acquire highly sought-after skills and knowledge in production, design and, first of all, in the maintenance of modern telecommunication and signal transformation systems. Graduates are likely to be employed in telecommunication, construction and design enterprises, technological industry as well as companies dealing with electronic and telecommunication equipment. Moreover, graduates of all fields of study are frequently required by the army, police, fire brigades and municipal enterprises.

Automation and Robotics students are highly educated in industrial robotics, mechatronics, diagnostics, drive systems, electronic protection systems, PLC and SCADA systems. They are able to solve practical problems and implementation of projects related to the control of automation and robotics systems based on the use of modern electronics and microprocessors, renewable energy sources and their control systems, measurement systems, computer control systems, advanced control algorithms, processing systems, modeling and simulation, and control systems in buildings.

Moreover, the Faculty offers postgraduate studies intended for employees working in industry, business and local government, willing to improve their qualifications. The well-qualified staff of the Faculty contributes significantly to their academic areas of expertise by running courses in programming for data visualization and acquisition along with courses on electromagnetic compatibility and electromagnetic field work safety.

Research and development studies cover mainly electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, telecommunications, automation and robotics, in particular: innovative materials, high voltage techniques, electro-technology, renewable energy, electromagnetic compatibility, optoelectronics, automotive electronics, photovoltaic, electro-ecology, numerical methods in energy balance, numerical optimization of complex production processes, and building electrical machines, devices and motive systems, nondestructive and non-invasive testing, infrared thermography, automation of industrial processes.

The scientific research is carried out in research teams within the framework of statutory and individual research activities and they meet the requirements of the industry. The Faculty prides itself on successful international cooperation with the universities in Europe and other countries, involving student and tutor exchange, development and research as well as raising EU funds for these purposes.
