1st level (B.Sc.) studies
The overall aim of courses in Electrical Engineering is to prepare the graduates for a constructive and creative activity in the area of electrical engineering, including theoretical knowledge at the level that makes it possible to develop scientific and innovative activity as well as know-how in the design, construction and operation of equipment, systems and processes. The graduates are prepared to continue their education, respectively: after completion of first level studies – at the second level, and after completion of the second level at the PhD level. The courses are held both full time and part time.
A graduate in Electrical Engineering has the skills: to use the acquired knowledge in practice, to communicate with the environment at the workplace, to actively participate in group work, act as aleader of a group of employees. He/she has the skills in: computer-aided design in the field of network and electrical installations, protection of electrical equipment and operation of technological devices, switching gear, control and measuring electrical power. He/she is prepared to take up positions at factories and units responsible for design and construction electrical industry . During the first semester, the students receive education in the field of basic sciences ( physics, computer science , mathematics ) and take some specialized courses as well (e.g. foundations of automation, electronics, electrical machines, electrical metrology, microprocessor technology). Moreover they receive general courses (foreign languages, protection of intellectual properties, foundations of organization and management, safety of electrical equipment) . After the fourth semester in full-time studies/fifth semester for part-time studies, the program of study allows them for individualization of further education by choosing specialized courses.
The graduates after defence of their theses obtain the professional title of electrical engineer. A degree holder may take the second level studies.
Full-time studies in Electrical Engineering last 3.5 years (7 semesters) in full-time cycle
or 4 years (8 semesters) in part-time cycle.
The faculty organizes courses in the following majors:
Electrical Power Engineering
The graduates have the skills to solve problems in the fields: electrical networks, power plant operation, electrical appliances. They have the ability to create and use engineering programs for problems occurring in the power industry. They possess the knowledge on unconventional energy generation (in particular from renewable sources) and on the impact of electricity on the environment. They are well qualified to work at factories and power stations/plants, as well as at the innovation centres. Morover they are able to take positions at businesses aimed at production of electrical appliances, repair of electrical power plants. They work at local power plants, in electric power industry as engineers with a comprehensive knowledge of computer science. The graduates are also employed as designers at project bureaus.
Electrical Installations in Buildings
This major enables the students to acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills in: design and operation of electrical equipment and systems in construction and industry, digital and analog control systems and devices, design and operation of automation systems, particularly in the field of intelligent building control systems and industrial systems, use of CAD technologies supporting engineering design work and diagnostics in residential construction and electronics. The graduates become familiar with the technical solutions, the results of scientific research, the profile of industrial production and the principles of design and operation of intelligent technology and intelligent buildings. The graduates obtain knowledge of engineering and technical solutions and organizational projects aimed at creating a highly effective and economical building control system. The graduates may find work as engineers, or designers in the construction industry, municipal industries as well as at small and medium-sized enterprises.
Computer-aided Automation and Robotic Processes
The graduates receive a thorough foundations in the fields: robotics and robotic manufacturing processes, use of computer systems and microprocessor systems for measurement and control of automation systems, use of electronic systems and power electronics in electric machines and drives, electrical metrology. The graduates can work as automation engineers, who supervise production and manufacturing equipment, maintenance engineers, operators of automation systems, inspectors etc., The graduates have the necessary preparation to work at factories, where the qualifications in the field of electrical engineering and computer engineering are required. They can also be employed at power plants or in telecommunications companies as supervising engineers of the maintenance and operators of computer networks as well as of industrial microprocessor devices.
Industrial Electronics
Graduates of this specialty are prepared to work in companies operating in the field of power electronics, electric drive, and industrial automation. They are prepared both theoretically and practically to design new and apply ready-made devices. Issues discussed in the specialty relate to the details of design and construction of industrial electronics devices, as well as the knowledge of the processes in which these devices are applied.
2st level (M.Sc.) studies
The graduates of second level studies in Electrical Engineering have gained an advanced and established knowledge of design, construction, operationand testing of electrical equipment and computer systems for measurement and digital control systems. They are able to choose an appropriate electronic equipment and software tools for his/her purposes. They are able to carry out a cutting-edge research, to make independent decisions and manage a team. The graduates have habits of lifelong learning and professional development. The students receive a professional training in the field of electrical engineering (modern electromechanical drive systems , modeling in electrical disturbances in electrical power systems) and take part in specialized courses accustomed to their needs The graduates after defense of their Masters’ theses obtain M.Sc. E. E. degrees and are prepared to continue their education at the third level studies leading to a PhD degree. The full-time and part-time studies last 1.5 years (3 semesters).
Full-time and part-time second level studies are carried out in the following majors:
